Small Group Curriculum and Resources

Choosing the “right” curriculum for your group is an important
decision. The Kirk would like to assist you in finding a curriculum that stimulates great discussion in your group while equipping group participants to become fully devoted Christ followers. Here are some curriculums that we are recommending for all small groups.

Know Why You Believe:  by Paul Little
This is a book, with chapter questions for individual meditation or small group discussion Focus of the study is to arm Believers to answer difficult questions from Seekers or persons who are far from God.  Ex:  Do Science and Scripture conflict? ; and, Why does God allow suffering and evil?

Science: 
Unlocking the Mysteries of Life – a 65 minute DVD
Focus is on Darwinism in science, and the changes toward Intelligent Design based upon cellular structure

Icons of Evolution – a 51 minute DVD
Focus is to follow up on the Darwinian theory with current scientific
Research; This DVD has a better explanation of the conflict in the classroom regarding creation.
It is excellent for people interested in the realm of Science and/or Education.

Worldview:
Understanding the Times
This text covers a comparative study of Secular Humanism, Marxism/Leninism; Cosmic Humanism, and Biblical Christianity in the areas of Theology, Philosophy, Ethics, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Politics, Economics, and History. This text is comprehensive and  in depth in the above topics.  It could be used in small group in a 10 week study.  It is excellent for people interested in understanding the various Worldviews.

Small Group Development:
ReGroup by Henry Cloud, Bill Donahue, and John Townsend
This is a 4 week 60 minute session curriculum focusing on small group dynamics.  It is good for new groups as well as existing groups who might need a “refresher”.  There is a DVD along with individual workbooks.

Faith and Culture:
Where Faith & Culture Meet by Andy Crouch
This is a 6 session, 75 minute small group course that has a DVD and individual workbooks. The focus of this curriculum is to prepare people to move out into the world/culture in Faith.  There are interesting concepts in this study that could be applied to many cross-cultural experiences, both locally and internationally.

Faith in Action by Outreach Ministeries
This is a 4 week campaign that mobilizes groups to live out their faith in the community in which they live.  There is a DVD along with workbooks.

Sermon Series
According to Jim:  The book of James.  A variety of small group studies are available.

Recommended Reading:
Any number of books from the Truth Project Recommended Reading List would be useful as topics for discussion in small groups.
