Special Needs Ministries

Do you love to be loved?  Do you like to share your love and God’s love with others?  Do you like to smile?   Would you like to make sure all of the parents at the Kirk have the opportunity to attend worship each Sunday.  You can help make these things possible by volunteering in the Special Needs Ministry!

You can sign up for one or more Sundays of the month and volunteer as often as you would like.  There are currently several volunteer opportunities @Kirk of the Hills and @Kirk Crossing.  The members of our various groups love people of all ages so don’t worry about being too young or too old.

Special Buds
If you are a compassionate loving person and you want to extend the love of God to everyone in our church please consider being a part of our Special Needs Ministry.  You can volunteer to be a Bud to a child with a developmental disability as little as once a month or every week.  On Sunday mornings there are volunteer opportunities at either 9:20 am to 10:45 am or 10:45 am to 12:15 pm at Kirk of the Hills.  Volunteers are also needed at Kirk Crossing from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm on Sundays.  During the week, you can volunteer for Wednesday night classes at the Kirk from 6:20 pm to 8:10 pm.  You do not need a background in Special Education to be a wonderful volunteer, only a love for the Lord and all his children.  We will help you with anything you need to know.

Friday Night Owls
Friday Night Owls meets the fourth Friday of each month from 6 pm to 9 pm   in Fellowship Hall at Kirk of the Hills.  Friday Night Owls provides the parents of children with developmental disabilities along with their typical children an opportunity to have a night out while all their kids are being cared for in a safe and loving environment. If we have extra volunteers we are able to invite families from the community that have children with developmental disabilities.  The more volunteers we have the more families we can serve.

Faithful Buds
Do you like to have a great time?  Do you enjoy praying with and for others?  Do you enjoy having a meal with a wonderful group of people?  Do you enjoy being at an event where everyone is glad to see you and happy you are there?  Well if you answered yes to these questions Faithful Buds may be the right place for you.   Faithful Buds is a ministry at the Kirk for adults with developmental disabilities.  Faithful Buds meet on Sunday evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm in Fellowship Hall.  The Buds all love meeting new people and having people talk and hang out with them.

Phone or Card Buddies:
Many of our adult members live alone or do not have a lot of contact during the week with other people.  If you like to talk on the phone or send cards we would love for you to call and check on some of our Buds about twice a month or send a card to one of them once a month.

Administrative Assistant Skills:
If volunteering in the classroom or at events does not work for you, we always have a variety of tasks that need to be done.   You can support the Special Needs ministry by designing new brochures, organizing crafts, shopping, putting up new bulletin boards, or communicating with members and families through email or regular mail.  Whatever your interest is we have an activity that will work for you!
